About
Copilot Chat is a generative artificial intelligence (GAI) solution based on the GPT model. It is provided by Microsoft and is based on the public cloud.
Copilot offers the following functions:
- A chat mode (a ‘prompt’) that allows users to interact with each other in natural language.
- The generation of textual content such as emails, stories, code, essays, etc.
- The generation of graphical content (images) based on a textual description.
- Improving user content by providing suggestions, corrections or improvements.
- Search for information, in the form of a discussion with the user.
Data protection and recommendations

Copilot Chat, in authenticated mode, offers protection for corporate data through the Microsoft 365 licences paid for by the University of Geneva.

Low and medium sensitivity data can therefore be used with Copilot Chat. This is provided that the service is used in authenticated mode. On the other hand, the use of personal or highly sensitive data is not authorised.

For this reason, Copilot Chat, in authenticated mode, is the recommended IAG solution.
Other versions of the product
- The version of Copilot available is Copilot Chat. Other versions of Copilot exist, including Copilot for Microsoft 365 and Copilot Studio. These are different solutions that require additional licences.

In authenticated mode, low and medium sensitivity data is authorised. The use of high sensitivity data or personal data is prohibited.
Using the service
To use Copilot you need :
- Go to the Copilot website.
- Log in using your ISIs account (login and password).
- The ‘protected’ logo appear :

Related services
- Copilot is available on a self-service basis to anyone with an ISIs account and a University of Geneva e-mail address.
- To activate the service, and therefore data protection, you need to log in with your ISIs account.
